Books Written and Self-Published by Canadian Author Michaela Smart
I am a young Canadian author who writes children's and young adult novellas. I write, edit, and self-publish all of my material. I have written one book for children aged 9-12, and one for teens. These books have a unique advantage, as I planned them when I was the same age as the young people who read them.
The Lottie Niffumevol series chronicles the misadventures of a headstrong young girl and her friends. Learn more about the first two books below.

I started writing the Lottie Niffumevol series at 11 years old. Imagine being a kid, and reading a book that was written by someone around your age!
These books have the voice of an author relatable to readers - a kid their age!
In the first book, Lottie Niffumevol, nine-year-old Lottie and her friends often get into trouble without meaning to. They accidentally bake a cake with mustard, and break a neighbour's window while playing baseball! When she isn't involved in misadventures, Lottie tries to outdo her competitive enemy, Bridget, who thinks she is better than Lottie at everything. Even when things go wrong, they learn that everything works out in the end!
Lottie Niffumevol at Hidielle High chronicles the girls' transition to high school at 14, where they try to find dates to the upcoming dance. Initially, this is their biggest problem, but unexpected choices cause complications.

"Smart writes a compelling story, with so much elegance and maturity. She is very good at getting into the mindset of students at juniour high, and their set of misadventure[s] throughout the novel are not only plausible, but relatable as well. Smart is an exceptional author who writes with such talent, at a level that far surpasses her years. The Lottie books are a must-read for any preteen who likes to hang out with friends, and bend the rules now and then."
